SCHEDULE

BATUKARU (Dec 28th – Jan 1st)

Location
Batukaru is situated approximately 1000m up on the south eastern slopes of the second highest mountain of Bali – Mt Batukaru. It is the highest dormant volcanic peak in the Bedugul area The large crater, with an opening at the southern end, allows river Mawa to flow, hence its name ”Batukaru”, which means ”coconut shell” in Balinese.

The Lodge/Batukaru Coffee Estate
Situated halfway up the 2700m high Mount BATUKARU, the lodge is situatied overlooking the valley of UNESCO protection site – the Jatiluwih ricefields. Batukaru’s arabica coffee plants thrive on what was formally a vast, untouched and pristine virgin jungle, and the estate oversees the panaromic view of the South-eastern coastline.

The yogadeck overlooks the whole valley and on days with good visibility half of the island with visibility of other vulcanos and the far off island of Lembongan and Penida. There is also an indoor shala in case of rain.

Besides the coffee plants, this 10-hectare estate is also bursting with wild grown tropical fruits and vegetables, with different varieties to be harvested all year round. There are a total of around 50 types of wild grown fruits and vegetables. Animals such as deer, tropical birds, civet cats, monkeys and chickens roam free. The land is alive with energy, as witnessed by not only the abundance of thriving crops, but also the presence of century old fossilised tree stand stoic over the passage of time.

A beautiful waterfall and hot spring is 15 Minutes drive away. Water purification by the local priest is held at a nearby sacred spot where 2 river tributaries meet. A wild jungle trek of 20minutes will also bring you to a picnic spot beside a natural spring pool.

If you ever wondered about the Sound of Silence…on Batukaru you will have no disturbances whatsoever apart from the birds and the occasional rain shower. And if you wish to have a single room we can facilitate that as well. Traditional Balinese massages can be obtained by local therapists (not included).

The vision of the owner
Since the beginning of time, man and nature is inextricably co-dependent. Keeping our land in ecological harmony is our top priority here at BATUKARU coffee estate. The adoption of biodynamic farming allows us to treat Mother Earth with utmost respect, as we lovingly and painstakingly make our own compost and manures to heal and nurture the soils. We reject the use of any chemical pesticides and fertilisers, and believe that healthy soil is the basis of nutritious crops, and wholesome food is the basis of good health. We love our land, and abide by the concept of biodynamic farming.

Food is medicine. And pure healthy soil has always been mother earth’s first promise to us. In the bereaved state of pollution we are in after generations of neglect, it is high time we as earthlings reclaim this duty to nurture and respect the beautiful land that had lovingly fed us nice the being of mankind. Please join us to embrace and protect this very important mission.

UBUD (January 2nd- 4th)

We will say our farewells after breakfast and head on to lower regions. Ubud, the biggest yoga community, will be our destination.

On the way south from Batukaru we will visit the sacred Water Temple near Ubud. Around lunch we will check into the hotel and the rest of the day is free to explore the surroundings or rest.

On day two and three we will take classes at the Yoga Barn and attend a Ceremony at the Temple. There will be plenty of time to buy souvenirs, book treatments, visit Monkey Forest and countless organic restaurants.

CANGGU (Jan 4rd-6th)

Ready for the beach? 🙂

We arrive in Canggu just in time for lunch. The driver will drop us at our bungalows and we have the afternoon off to spend on the beach (darker volcanic sand). There will be an evening class at ”The Practice” one of my favourite yoga studios. Dinner at a restaurant of your choice. Canggu is overflowing with healthfood restaurants which serve also excellent desserts.

5th Jan – The next day we will rise early to meet a very gifted yoga teacher at ”Desa Seni” where you also can choose to have your breakfast afterwards and swim in the pool. The day is free to explore areas like Seminyak (with white sand) and maybe even try surfing in the shallow white water waves.

5th Jan – A mellow morning with breakfast at the bungalows and a long digestion rest. Another class at ”The Practise” followed by an excursion to Uluwatu cliff (holy temple). Sunset dinner and return to hotel.

6th Jan – The last day of our retreat will be filled with dancing. At ”The Practice” they offer Ecstatic Dance every Sunday 11-12 am. We will eat lunch in Canggu and go back to the bungalows to pack.

Transfer to Denpasar airport 3-4 pm

For you who wish to extend your stay in Indonesia, you are welcome to join me to one of the outer islands (Gili Meno or Nusa Lembongan).

Namaste ~ hope to see you in December! 🙂
